Slick production and an electronic/acoustic backbone define Bertoia’s bebut album, to date their only major release. Setting themselves apart from other early 2010’s Japanese shoegaze, a laid back vibe permeates the record. Drifty, wispy, melodies on tracks like Fin are counteracted by tight, propelling beats on tracks such as Glass Bird and 1974LAB. Elements of dub creep in on Upside Down, and laptop-as-instrument is as much an important facet of the sound as the swirling guitars, subbing in the sounds of tinkling bells, water drops, and xylophones for the general percussive backbone of melodic shoegaze. Throughout the record are multi-tracked vocals that truly emphasis the ethereal nature of these recordings. A great effort with plenty of unique textures that has finally made its debut on an analog format on this cassette.
